Original Santa Maria Valley Style Seasoning

I live in Oregon and a friend sent me a 22 oz. container. It's become not only a cooking staple, there's a salt cellar of it on the table for extra sprinkling at meals. I can't imaging not having it around and using it frequently anymore, and since the flavor is so complex, less is used than salt by those who need to control their sodium in my family.

I'm from Santa Maria and my family has been using Susie Q for a long time. I especially love it on eggs. I haven't been to Cali since I was 14 but my mom used to go out there every now and then and she'd come home with a few jars of the awesome seasoning. My boyfriend loves it and now that the walmart out here sells tri tip,I thought it'd be cool for my boyfriend to try what I used to eat and he loved it.

I use Susie Q's on everything- my fave is sprinkled on toast and avacado. I grew up on it in SM and when I moved away I took a bunch of it with me and restock every time I go back to visit. I gave out the little sample envelopes as wedding favors so all my friends and family who don't know about it could experience the amazingness. 3 years later I still have wedding guest saying it was the best favor they have ever received and they are now addicted too.

I grew up in Lodi, CA and this seasoning has long been a staple at the Feist ranch. When I moved to NJ almost 30 years ago, I missed it terribly. We lived in Santa Barbara for 25 years and learned to cook tri-tip from Chris Rigetti. Now we are in South Florida and I use Susie-Q in EVERYTHING. Bruce's business is in Goleta (Mentor Corp) so he freezes tri-tip and Fed-Ex's it to Florida. He brings home large quantities of Susie-Q when ever he returns home to FL. My wife and I lived in Southern California for 22 years and a good friend of ours introduced us to Santa Maria Tri-tip. We moved back to Illinois in 1997 and no one even heard of the word Tri-tip. Now almost 14 years have gone by and our local markets (some; not all) carry tri-tip we grill it always on the holidays and I am the main source for SuzieQ's Santa Marie rub. I currently live in Kalamazoo, Mi. at the moment but I also have a home in Santa Maria. I was transferred here in 1994 and am planning to retire in July of 2010. About 62 people transferred here to work in a large aerospace company. We brought Tri-Tip to the area and have a lot of people grilling even though Tri-Tip is hard to get. I am the former Catering Manager at the Santa Maria CA Hilton Hotel (it's no longer a Hilton btw) We used SusieQ's all the time as Santa Maria BBQ was a mainstay on the menu. I was placing yet another order this morning when I saw that I could post a review. As a Bakerfield native, I have been hooked on tri-tip and your product as long as I can remember. We moved to PA and literally nobody knew what a tri-tip was or your Santa Maria seasoning. After being stationed near Santa Maria at Vandenberg AFB, Santa Maria BBQ and Tri-tip were in constant supply. For 7+ years, we feasted in regional food and are very spoiled. Although we now call NM our home, our family has enjoyed every version of this BBQ and have used this seasoning in everything from a shrimp marinade to a dry rub on beef.
